Cry, the beloved country

In the novel Cry, The Beloved Country, Kumalo is a good description of a round character. A dynamic, or round, character is a major character in a work of fiction that encounters conflict and is changed by it. Kumalo goes through continuous changes throughout the book, good changes, bad changes, and life changing conflicts. All through his experience, he has both positive and negative attributes to his personality. How has Stephen Kumalos experiences affected him and make him into the character he is now? His experiences affected him by challenging his faith in God and making him a smarter man by seeing how others live and what their life is like.

Stephen kumalo is a major character in cry, the beloved country. He is a sweet priest with a strong faith in God and a caring heart. Kumalo is a quiet, humble man who mostly stays to himself. Kumalo and his wife are well kept with a nice house in a quiet village of umzimkulu that speaks the language of zulu in Africa, however they still struggle to save money for his wife a new stove and him new clothing.  Kumalo is not perfect; therefore he prays to god daily and repents when he lashes out unfairly.

As the novel begins kumalo takes his first journey to Johannesburg looking for his family. Kumalo is a simple man who is not prepared for the menacing drama that takes place in the city, as a angelic priest kumalo is easly tricked by putting trust into those who say they will help him. Kumalo learns quickly of the harsh ways in Johannesburg but as he's still learning it greatly hurts him emotionally and physically to hear about his son and sick sister as he is now a weak man.
Kumalo went to Johannesburg blind to everything that was going on around him, coming from a sweet homeland, Kumalo had no idea. But as he goes through life situations he slowly gains knowledge about the dirty life. Kumalo does not turn bitter and mean but however he does sometime speak out but always asked God for forgiveness. The only way Kumalo changed was by becoming smarter and proving his faith in God. He is a wonderful character and enjoyable to read about.

Peanut Butter Chewies

Homemade peanutbutter chewies

1/3 cups peanut butter
1/4 cup margarine
4 cups of marshmallows

preperations

melt marshmallows and margarine in the microvave for three minutes
stir in peanut butter
add cereal
mix well
mold into balls

Once you have out all the ingrediants, take out a large mixing bowl, heat the margarine and marshmallows for exactly three minutes.

While me and my little sister daija were waiting for the microwave to beep, we usually listened to music on my Samsung and danced along to it. It seems like the best songs always came on when me and daija were together making the sweet peanutbutter chewies. My mother would always smile  and giggle like a little girl while whatching us , with Daijas uncoordinated funky dance moves and my groovy dacing, well that was enough to make anybody laugh.

Beep! Momma took out the big blue bowl, the melted marshmallows reminded me of soft puffy clouds, and made me imagine of sleeping on the clouds. I started rambling around under the cabinets to find a cupcake pan for when the chewies were finished to try and stop myself from daydreaming . Making the chewies were as common as going to school everyday for my family. My mom loves making the delicious dessert because its cheap for us to make. "Its like turning plain ordinary food thats so boring by thier self into wonderful fun foods." My mom would say. I begged my mom to make extras for my friends. Why wouldn't i want to bragg about mommy's delicious chewies?  I invited over a couple of friends and helped my mom on making extras. She wanted to make sure everyone got at least two. Momma was always like that though, always thinking of others,  its a great characteristic when it comes down to taking care of her kids and her job, a registered nurse.

Bark Bark! Eli, our young pit bull, started barking at the door.

"That must be my friends, ill get it!" I said.

I lead my friends into the living room and told them the chewies would be done in a few minutes. I walked back into the kitchen

"Mommy you need anymore help?"

"Actually im just finishing up." My mom said.

I grabbed the silver platter she was placing the chewies on and rushed out to the living room. I could hear my friends laughing amd giggling together all having a good time. I set down the platter in front of my friends on the coffe table. Each friend grabbed a chewie, i watched while they engulfed them and licked their fingers.

"Wow kierra these are amazing! " my friend Kolbie raved, actually savoring hers.

I couldnt help but smile, i was bursting with pride. Ten years later my mother chewies still give off the same affect, its kind of like a tradition for me and my friends to celebrate with chewies now. Ofcourse i would be the one making them and bringing them. I dint mind the least bit though, they were so easy and fast to make. It was mandatory that I always recieved the last chewie, i accepted it as a thank-you gift from my friends for bringing the chewies. I cherish my memories and weekends with my friends and family.
